Back on the Saddle Again!

It is the beginning of a new year and a new adventure! Some people swear to stick by useless resolutions when we know that almost nobody does anything about them. Yesterday, I read that the top 5 New Year resolutions, in order of importance are:

  1. To loose weight
  2. To save more money
  3. To date more
  4. To find a new significant other
  5. To go out more

I looked at this list and told myself, off the bat the I know why we (people) don’t stick to a mediocre list like this one. If the list before-mentioned is accurate, we don’t stand a chance! Let me give you an example. Let’s take #1, “To loose weight,” can that resolution be any more vague? You are probably saying, “well, it is a survey, so they have to reduce it to the most common denominator, which is to loose wight, and they can only do that by removing some of its context!” I agree to an extent. So, before I get grilled by my readers, I did my own impromptu survey and I called 5 friends that every year propose the same resolution; which is, to loose weight. This is what they said:

  1. …to loose 20 lbs
  2. …to loose weight fast
  3. …want to look good in the Summer (he lives in Chicago, so he doesn’t care about the Spring!)
  4. …to loose 15 lbs
  5. …to loose 15-20 lbs sometime this year

My point is, that even though we can reduce these resolutions to loosing weight, they were all proposed very vaguely.

So, New year, new way to propose things!

I will encourage you to write it down first, not just say it, write it down and say what you want, when you want it by and by how much. This adds accountability. Example: “I want to loose 20 lbs by April 15th 2014 or in 13 weeks, by exercising twice a week for 20 minutes and reducing my sugar intake to 75g per day and 250g of carbs. I want to do this because I can barely fit into my pants, it is embarrassing and I hate sucking in my gut!”

If you propose something like this, your chances for success will be much, much higher. It tells you how, when and why you are doing this. Try it, write it on a piece of paper and carry it with you in your wallet. This is critical when you are at a friends BB-Q and they want to offer you a cheeseburger; which we know that a cheeseburger would blow your daily intake for the next week! Every time you are flaking out, pull the paper out and read it to yourself, it will help! If you want to make this even more powerful, tell you friends and family what you are doing, especially the ones that like to critique everything, because they will be in your case pretty hard, unless you succeed! It’s up to you how you want to handle it and how aggressive you want to be. In the end, its your life!

The purpose of this article is not to help you make year end resolutions, but to show you how you can plan your life better! Through the application of this example to other areas of your life such as: family, health, business etc. you are bound to have a more successful year, hence a more successful life. I also wrote this, hopefully to motivate you to look at your resolutions, goals, dreams and to reevaluate them, in light of this methodical process. Are your goals and dreams detailed and strong enough to move a mountain, in this case you, so that in a daily basis you can continue to move towards and not away from your dreams? Take this example and apply it to every single area in your life that you are trying to improve. I promise you that it will make a difference. I hope this helps and that I can continue to receive as many, if not more emails from people who are reading my blog and are applying some of these concepts. Want to be a success story, let me help!
